Case Summary: This 55 year old patient came to Dr. Joyce in 2009 because of a leg ulcer in his right foot that failed to heal. The patient played Frankenstein at Universal Studios and was unable to work due to severe pain and drainage from the wound. His leg ulcer initially started in 1992 from a brown recluse spider bite. After months of suffering from an excruciatingly painful draining leg wound, his physicians recommended amputation. The patient refused and eventually, after a total of ten months, the ulcer healed. Then in 2006, the leg wound reopened and failed to heal after nine months of treatment by an infectious disease specialist. Just by chance, the patient learned about Dr. Joyce and began treatment at the Joyce Vein & Aesthetic Institute in 2009. He was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency and was totally healed after two office procedures.
