Why am I getting more Varicose Veins after treatment?

This is a question that many patients with varicose veins don’t ask and don’t understand when they receive cosmetic varicose vein treatment.

Unfortunately, laser vein centers and doctors who have jumped on the bandwagon to offer cosmetic vein treatment will never tell you that this can happen. They are under no obligation to do so. Although they do a very good job at removing spider veins and varicose veins through laser treatment, they are not trained or equipped to diagnose and treat an underlying venous disease problem.

How a vein treatment specialist is different from a cosmetic vein center and practitioner

A vein treatment specialist is a physician who is board certified in phlebology (venous disease).  When a patient comes in with varicose veins and complaints of leg pain, tired legs and other signs of a venous disease problem, the physician uses special diagnostic ultrasound equipment to determine the presence and degree of incompetence in the valves of the major superficial veins such as the Great Saphenous and Small Saphenous veins. These are a common reason for the development of varicose veins. This critical diagnostic evaluation is what is missing when a patient opts for cosmetic vein treatment alone.  Besides paying 100% of the fees for cosmetic procedures, the patient is unaware that the problem causing the varicose veins is still present. It is just a matter of time before new varicose veins emerge in other areas of the legs.

Dr. Douglas H. Joyce, D.O. at the Joyce Vein & Aesthetic Institute in Punta Gorda Florida is one of a very small number of physicians board certified in phlebology in the world. He is recognized as a leader in vein treatment with a cure rate of 96% and performs one of the highest volumes of laser vein surgery in the US.  Dr. Joyce is committed to state-of-the-art vein treatment, pioneering procedures that have resulted in a excellent cure rate for all levels of venous disease and virtually without complications.
